A car blaze in Luton yesterday (Monday) prompted 24 calls to Beds Fire and Rescue Service.

Police were also called to the scene at Poynters Road to help divert traffic away from the incident.

A Beds Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a car fire at 2.45pm yesterday.

"BFRS control received 24 calls in quick succession to a car fire on Poynters Road, Luton.

"A crew from Dunstable were quickly mobilised and the fire extinguished using a hose reel jet.

"The scene was made safe by the fire service and police."
