Climb up Mount Kilimanjaro and Meru inspired by London Marathon runner David Rogers.
The father of David Rogers, who died after running the London Marathon, has gone to new heights to raise money in his memory.
Chris Rogers, 53, of Tyburn Close, Westoning, has just returned home after climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru in Tanzania, taking his son's memorial fund to more than £43,000.
The popular 22-year-old collapsed after finishing the famous London Marathon amid warm temperatures in April 2007 and died in hospital the next day.
His friends and family have since completed in a number of fundraising activities on behalf of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, which he was running for when he collapsed.
His father was the oldest of 15 hikers who made the four-day trek to the top of Mount Meru, which is 14,980 feet high, and the six-day hike up Mount Kilimanjaro, 19,340ft.
Mr Rogers said: "I've been amazed at how many people have donated money in the last 18 months.
"The climb was hard work, we had a very hectic schedule, we just seemed to walk, eat and sleep, but it was great fun.
"It has been one of the things I have wanted to do for the last three-and-a-half years, so I finally decided to bite the bullet and do it. It was tough, but David was with me a lot of the time in spirit."
The group began the race to the summit of both mountains at around midnight, reaching the top at around 6am in order to watch the sunrise.
Mr Rogers added: "There were fantastic views during all of the ten days' walking.
"I'm just recovering at the moment, I'm not used to sleeping in tents and sleeping bags. The blisters on my toes are getting slowly better.
"It would be great if we could get the fundraising total up to £50,000."
