Economic crime unit makes three arrests

Mobile phones seized; probes into prostitution and money laundering.


Officers from the Bedfordshire Police economic crime unit executed warrants under the Proceeds of Crime Act at addresses in Bedford on Thursday and arrested two people.

The first arrest happened at an address in Goldington Road, Bedford, at 7am when a 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of controlling prostitution for gain, contrary to the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

He was taken to Greyfriars Police Station and later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

At a second address in Fenlake Road industrial estate officers seized a large amount of correspondence and over 70 mobile telephones.

At a third address in Riverside View, Milton Ernest, officers arrested a 26-year-old women on suspicion of money laundering and seized a large quantity of cash.

The woman was taken to Greyfriars police station and later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

DS Tim Redfearn, who led the raids, said: "The information which members of the public give to the police is very important to us and enables operations like this to take place. I would like to encourage anyone with information relating to crime to contact the police who will always treat their call in strict confidence."
