TEAM MEMBERS at Mecca Bingo in Skimpot Road have helped raised £500,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Along with 96 other clubs in the UK who took part in fundraising for the charity, the Mecca staff organised events including body waxes, head shaves and tea parties to raise money.

Marie Curie Cancer Care provides free nursing care for terminally ill people in local communities across the UL.

Paul Martin, general manager of Mecca Luton Skimpot Road, said: “I’ve been so impressed with the drive and enthusiasm the team members have shown when it comes to organising fundraising events at the club. The impressive result achieved goes to show just how hard everyone has worked.

“We mustn’t forget that this fantastic figure is also down to our generous customers – we wouldn’t have been able to do this without them.”

The Rank Group PLC, whose portfolio includes Grosvenor Casino and Blue Square as well as Mecca Bingo, has now raised over £809,000 during the

last three years.

Marie Curie Cancer Care Community Fundraiser, Christine Brown, said: “The way in which the Mecca team members and customers at the club have embraced the fundraising challenge for Marie Curie Cancer Care has been fantastic.

“The wonderful amount raised will help make a difference to terminally ill people and their families. Giving more people the choice to spend their final days in their own home, the place they most want to be.”
