Car park to be demolished

Work on the demolition of Luton library car park is to begin within the next week or so, according to a council spokeswoman.

She said: “Hoardings went up on September 3.”

The 700-bay town centre structure has been closed since December 2008 when a routine inspection revealed concerns about its safety. It was said to be “beyond economic repair.”

It is owned by The Mall who are responsible for its maintenance.

Earlier this year the council spokesman said they would be looking at developing the area.
