INTERNATIONAL carnival artist Colin Spalding is heading to Hong Kong on Friday at the invitation of the Hong Kong Tourism Board.

The Rampage Mas Band leader was approached to take part in the 2012 Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year night parade from January 23 - 25.

A team of 25 will be flying out with him on Friday to attend the prestigious event.

More than 20 massive costumes – designed by Colin and created by members of carnival groups Rampage, St Kitts Nevis and Friends and Sickle Cell Thalassaemia Care Forum – have been sent ahead.

Colin said: “To be specifically requested to take part in the Chinese New Year festival is a testament to our unique high quality and spectacular outfits.

“They take a year to produce and are among the best in the country.”

He added: “It is a privilege, an honour and a great opportunity to join in their three-day celebrations and we are all looking forward to showing off our work.” This year is the Year of the Dragon and the carnival procession includes fabulous floats, marching bands, cheerleaders, dance troupes and roving costumed characters.
