Charlie to take on skydive challenge for Keech Hospice

A BRAVE woman will be taking on a new challenge this year when she jumps out of a plane for charity.

Charlie O’Brien, 27-year-old marketing manager at law firm Pictons, will be supporting the company’s charity of the year, Keech Hospice, by signing up to do her first ever skydive on May 12 at Hinton airfield.

Pictons has already raised more than £3,000 so far for the Hospice, either by setting up its own events or having staff members who have participated in many of Keech’s own fundraising initiatives.

Charlie said: “I decided to add a new personal challenge to my already jam-packed life. I think everybody locally knows someone who has been through Keech or benefited from the services they provide.
“Since Pictons chose Keech as its Charity of the Year, I have often wandered around the Hospice admiring the nurses and the support staff as well as the fundraisers for the tireless and unselfish work and services they provide. My best friend Nichola works there as a nurse and I’m in admiration of her. The sky dive is something that I always said I wouldn’t do but then I just thought to myself - “What a Wimp!” and I should go for it because Keech and the patients and staff deserve it.

“My mum is not so excited about me doing it hwoever, I know it will mean a lot to those I know whose family have been at Keech at some point.

“Since I let my family and friends know about this on Friday and set up my justgiving site I’ve already raised over £250. I’m setting myself a target of £1,000 which will be difficult but nothing compared to what the patients and staff go through at Keech. I’ll do my best and if I can show just a tiny percentage of the courage that is shown by patients at Keech I’ll deserve a pat on the back after the dive.”

Adele Harris, Corporate Fundraising Manager at Keech Hospice, said: “Like many of our corporate partnerships, Pictons has already given us phenomenal support during this past year, our 21st anniversary year. Every year we have to raise £6million and of course it just gets tougher when the country is in the middle of an economic crisis.

“We can’t thank companies like Pictons enough for their generosity and other local people still give to us even when they are struggling themselves. We’ve booked places on the May skydive for 15 brave souls and Charlie is one of the first to take up this huge challenge. I would really encourage her friends family and contacts to give her as much support as they can because everyone connected with Keech will benefit so much.”
