Moot Hall in Elstow marks the latest knot-ch in its history

History came to life as the ancient Moot Hall in Elstow was handed over to the new unitary council.

The Sealed Knot Living History Group recreated life within a 17th century military camp at the time of the English Civil War on Elstow village green to celebrate the handover of the timber-framed market hall from the now abolished Beds County Council to Bedford Borough Council.

Originally built to serve Elstow Abbey as a market house and manor courtroom, Moot Hall is now a museum, which illustrates the world of John Bunyan and the traditions of 17th century England.

The key to Moot Hall was handed over by Councillor Lynne Faulkner, formerly the local county ward member, to Councillor Barry Huckle.

Clive Arnold, curator of Moot Hall, said: "The day was one of celebration and nostalgia and the events staged by the Sealed Knot and local groups provided fun for all the family."
