Signing up to be a volunteer at the Olympics was the best decision she ever made, according to Luton PA Karen Stokes.

“I loved it all,” said the 38-year-old from Sundon Park, who was assigned to the Virgin Islands team.

“We organised everything they wanted, from tickets for family and friends to a big lunch for all the athletes and officials.

“It didn’t feel like a proper job and I’m really, really pleased I put my name down.

“It took a massive chunk out of the last year but it was all worthwhile.”

Karen has lots of mementoes of her experience including Games Makers’ pins in bronze, silver and gold and a specially commissioned baton.
