Police find cannabis factory in Luton

POLICE in Luton executed a search warrant at a property in Strathmore Avenue on Thursday, (Feb 9) and found a room full of cannabis plants.

Officers responding to intelligence attended the address during the afternoon and found 40 plants in various stages of growth together with a number of tablets which are thought to be ecstasy and an amount of a substance thought to be cocaine.

A 46 year old man and a 41 year old woman were both arrested at the scene and have been released on police bail pending forensic analysis of the substances found.

Speaking after the find, Police Sergeant Milo Brown, who is based at Luton Police Station, said: “Clues a property may be used for the cultivation of cannabis include permanently drawn curtains or blinds, strong smells and different people visiting. We would never encourage anyone to try to gain access to these places as they can be dangerous. If anyone has any suspicions about a property in their area I would recommend they contact the police immediately so we can take all necessary precautions to protect and keep the public safe.”

If you believe a property in your area is being used to produce illegal drugs then you can contact Bedfordshire Police, in confidence, on 101, or text information to 07786 200011.

Alternatively you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111, or online at crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken and information is not traced or recorded.

Huge profits can be made from the cultivation of cannabis. The papers are constantly advertising this fact. It's not surprising people are cashing in. However it is a dangerous option unless, of course, your are a friend of the government. In this case you can grow 60,000 high quality, high potency cannabis plants on a science park in kent with impunity. Not only this, you can also extract all the active ingredients, bottle it and sell it as a 'safe and effective' medicine, worldwide, at huge profit. The war against cannabis users has only one purpose - to protect the huge profits of Pharmaceutical companies and their investors (including MPs). We are being conned and deprived of a valuable medicine which the government deem dangerous unless you have a licence when it magically becomes 'safe and effective'.

You have accomplished nothing here except waste more police time which should be used to catch criminals who hurt others, and give more people criminal records for growing a plant. You have took medicine who some people depend on. Right now this country is a disgrace sending winston mathews to prision for growing the medication that gives him the will to live his life. When will this country wake up spain, netherlands, france, germany, switzerland and parts of america can all use and buy herbal cannabis as a medication GW Pharma grow 30 tonnes of cannabis a year and use it to make hash oil which can be made at home, but they charge extortion prices. They are allowed to grow and sell it but us as citizens are made into criminals to grow the medicine for ourselves because the sativex costs too much. END PROHIBITION!!!

Instead of producing cannabis in clandestine and often very unhealthy conditions, as is encouraged by prohibition, we need to be moving towards a more honest and open system of regulation. People will look back on this era of Cannabis prohibition much as we now look back and see how stupid alcohol prohibition was. This is all so damaging to society and every day the damage gets worse and harder to recover from. Can you imagine the power that the likes of Al Capone would now wield if the alcohol prohibition had been allowed to continue for nearly 100 years? They would have enough legislators in their pockets so that they could influence governments and ensure that alcohol prohibition continued. Now that is exactly the position the "drug barons" are in today. For this reason I believe that legalisation of Cannabis is the most urgent issue on this planet today. What we need, instead of a blanket prohibition of Cannabis, is a proper legally regulated supply that will benefit the U.K. economy through huge tax revenues and free up the resources of the police and courts to deal with real crimes. Most of all a properly regulated supply will protect young people, as it is in the area of Age Limits that prohibition has proven such a huge failure. In countries where there is provision for the legal supply of Cannabis to adults the use of Cannabis, and indeed other substances as well, is greatly reduced amongst youngsters. This is because the licensed suppliers know full well that if they are caught supplying to minors they stand to lose their licence, so they just don't do it. Whereas in good old Blighty we have to soldier on with prohibition giving the whole market straight into the hands of dealers who simply want to see your money, they will sell Cannabis to anyone of any age. And that's not all! A few unscrupulous dealers will sometimes say "Oh sorry, I couldn't get any weed this week, this other stuff is all they had, why don't you try some?" and then proceed to offer Heroin. So, legalise, regulate and tax the supply of Cannabis for a Britain that is happier, less violent and more affluent.
