Rogue traders warning
Money
RESIDENTS are warned to be on alert against unscrupulous doorstep traders this autumn.
Luton Borough Council is supporting an ongoing national campaign by the Office of Fair Trading to fight doorstep traders who use a range of tactics to target vulnerable older and disabled people.
Reports reveal consumers are experiencing problems when buying items such as wheelchairs, scooters and stair lifts from doorstep sellers.
Councillor Mohammed Ashraf said: “Remember it is your doorstep and your decision not to accept a potentially dodgy deal from a high pressure doorstep salesman. It is not impolite to simply say, ‘no thank you.’ Do not agree to sign anything on the spot. Take time to shop around and talk to someone you trust before you make any decision. We want to encourage local residents to be more confident in refusing unwanted salespeople and not to become victims.”
Bogus traders use a range of persuasive and emotional tactics to secure a fast sale and con people out of their money.
