Santa’s surprise

Cockernhoe Primary School choir entertained village senior citizens at a Christmas lunch

Santa arrived at a special Christmas party for Cockernhoe’s senior citizens with his latest ‘apprentice’ – the Memorial Hall’s longest-serving management committee member Caroline Gallagher.

This wasn’t the only surprise: Cockernhoe Primary School choir sang Christmas carols accompanied by their steel band section.

Senior citizens enjoyed a welcoming drink of mulled wine and full turkey dinner with all the trimmings, prepared by professional chef and Cockernhoe resident Jim Wright.

Octogenarian Len Ayres, who’s lived in the village all his life, said: “The food was excellent and the entertainment gets better every year.

“It’s always a delight to her the children sing and Santa and his apprentice were great fun.”
