TV spotlight falls on police forensics

TV viewers were given a graphic insight into the world of police forensics in Luton as officers from Beds and Herts Scientific Services took centre stage in a one-off BBC documentary on Tuesday night.
Raw Cut TV shadowed scenes of crime officers for a year between 2010 and 2011 to produce the programme, which showed how officers use the latest forensic science techniques to bring the area’s most dangerous criminals to justice.
The show focussed on two cases in Luton, a shotgun incident which saw shots fired at a house in Wilsden Avenue last March and a brutal assault in which Timothy Sheridan was attacked with an iron and broom handle and caustic soda was poured over his head at a bedsit in Crawley Green Road in October 2010.
The show explored how evidence was gathered to ensure that Waseem and Zahir Baig, both of Radnor Road, Luton, were convicted of the Wilsden Avenue shooting and Barry Medlock, Jackie Kerr and Jennifer Collins were all jailed for their part in the Crawley Green Road attack.
Principal SOCO Mark Watson, who is featured in the documentary, said: “Initially I found it quite difficult to concentrate on what I was doing as well as working with the cameraman.
“Over time though I found that the opportunity to explain how we interpret scenes and gather evidence gave me greater confidence.
“I hope that the final programme conveys the passion I have after many years for investigating crime scenes for the police.”

Monday, January 23, 2012 at 02:52 AMThis was my Family and you prove the legal system in this country is a joke - u think people plead guilty cz there guilty? No - its called a plea bargain- its because they make the best out of a bad situation- its because the law system in this country is not trust worthy- at least 25% of uk prisoners are locked up for things that they havent done, regardless of that beds police know theyve got the wrong people but i suppose the detective in charge can tick her boxes for 2010 - and so can the SOCO team- now I understand why the case took so long- the police were busy making movies- this is people's lives not Hollywood- yes I see that there was a fingerprint on the bag in the car, hands up u had something to go with but what was the result of the firearm? NEGATIVE INCONCLUSIVE - now tell me what did u have on the other brother? You say you had evidence? Why didnt you show this in the programme? Coz there nothing- to be honest it all seems pretty well set up - round of applause to you guys- good to c where our taxes are spent - cameras in the helicopters - cameras in the lab- u just needed an example and bravo you got one- the documentary showed your case was weak- your article says you "ensured" it was the baig brothers- ensured??? Planned??? Hmmmm anyway, relying on a jury was not an option, it didn't go to trial because the prosecution were already protected- the jury system is a bunch of nobodies who don't want to be there in the first place, deciding peoples fate- good or bad u rather make ur own fate because once ur in custody your guilty anyway-  but it was a win win for beds police they had 2 people in custody and were able to tick tick tick some more boxes - after all the government is making cuts, financial year is coming to an end, and they have to justify all there tea breaks and annual leave LOL - anyway Det in charge - well done, she got her 5 minutes of fame a bit of publicity and made a mark at the police station... Happy days - so going on from that, Bedfordshire police detained items from my home- 1 being a brand new boxed iPhone- so I chased and chased for it- guess what? They had no record of it... Does that suprise me? NO - as much as I love Luton, Luton is Luton after all- crime rate isnt exactly the lowest, and how will it get any better when our officers are "seizing" property and then "losing" it LOL - so finally after the Det claims she's "looked and looked" I file a complaint- by coincidence she calls the next day telling me "I'm really sorry, we just have no record of this phone, you need to make a complaint to property help desk, it's going to be a long process but there's nothing I can do" ... well love Iv already done it, and You my friend are also a part of that complaint because it took me 10 months to hear from you- and thennnnn!!!! Figure that, the same afternoon I get a call saying... "we found your phone" yipppeeee - LOL what a coincidence, as soon as there's a complaint filed against her suddenly she's found my phone, all that in the space of 6 hours! Beds police are very efficient when there arse is on the line, LOL - Back to the programme- i have 2 points to make: 1) beds police safeguarded the "victims" right by using actors to role play the 999 telephone call, yet you splashed my address on national television? Fair enough you've got whoever you wanted, but Surely the children that live in my house are as innocent and vulnerable as the next? Did you safeguard the children that live in my house? Did the BBC and Beds Police safeguard any of us that are still living here trying to move on with our lives? NO - shame on you - the day I came home and I saw ur cameras I knew this investigation was pre planned- it was all too much of a coinsidense- you can't catch real criminals so u need alternatives- tick tick tick - another target met for this year - 2) second point-  in the phone call the victim says "someone shot my house, ITS NOTHING TO DO WITH US, i have kids in the house" ok- firstly - didnt you acknowledge you had kids when your man was shotting drugs? Secondly- whats not do with with you, u poor innocent little girl? The lifestyle u live? You have a home you own, you drive 10 plate BMWs, and yet u havnt got a job between you! Hmmmmm that's a story within itself- Anyway After receiving all the documentation and tests which came back after the case, its my biggest regret that the boys didn't go to trial because u wud have got chewed and spat out regardless of the jury- however I understand the decision they made- the prosecution who have years of history and protection from the police, we're always to b protected- after all the police have invested in them- yes there was a gun found- the crime was that there wasnt a license- but that gun was never used- and YOUR forensics proved that- so the question is- where is the real person behind that crime because you know as well as I do, u have not got the right people... The only reason why your so attentive to the "victims" is because they are a bunch of snitchs and they help you do your job  - Beds Police once again prove, they are the real reason for the high crime rate in Luton - how could it stop when it begins with them? Only when your put in a position like my family is you really start researching the law system and the police and you will realise how sickening it really is I know sooner or later someone from the prosecution will jump and make a comment - go ahead- you know ur a bunch of liars- you can hide whats in your black hearts from people, but you can't hide from Allah- remember that-
