A COUNCIL driver appeared at Luton Magistrates Court yesterday (August 8) after an elderly woman suffering from Alzheimer’s was left in a bus overnight at the Kingsway depot.

Susan McLaughlin, 43, of Brunel Road, Luton, was arrested and charged with neglect following octogenarian Joan Cook’s ordeal on May 2.

Mrs Cook should have been delivered to her flat at Jill Jenkins Court extra care home after attending Hockwell Ring Day Care centre.

Instead she was discovered by another driver at 7am the next morning when the Passenger Transport Unit took immediate steps to ensure her wellbeing and return home,

The case was adjourned until August 22.
