POPULAR Luton DJ Marky T has died after a long illness.

The 33-year-old former Icknield pupil became a Butlins Red Coat after being awarded scholarships to the Italia Conti School and Brian Rogers Performing Arts College.

His mum May Taylor said: “He was always an entertainer.

“Before he could even walk or talk he was already singing and dancing.

“By the time he was 10 he was the best boy dancer at disco rock‘n’roll in the south of England, and he retained the title for six years.

“He had so many trophies for dancing we had nowhere to put them – there were literally hundreds.”

Mark, who lived at Chesford Court in May Street, was a diabetic whose condition gradually worsened.

Mrs Taylor said he’d been ill for nine years but carried on working until about four years ago.

She added: “He was full of life, the life and soul of every party.

“He was also the most caring, loving son. He would have done absolutely anything for anyone.

“He was always smiling and well-mannered.”

Mark, whose father died 10 years ago, was the middle child in a family of five. He has four sisters – Caroline, Marlene, Clare and Fiona.

He was a doting uncle to his two nephews and two nieces.

Clare was his partner at Rayners School of Dancing.

She has happy memories of spending time with him in Ibiza.

“We partied like rock stars,” she recalled. “He was the DJ and I worked behind the bar.”

> Mark’s funeral takes place at 2pm on Monday at St John’s Methodist Church in Birdsfoot Lane.

The family has requested mourners to wear bright colours and has asked for donations in his memory to Diabetes UK.
