New student paramedics join county lifesavers

Ambulance crews in Beds have been boosted with an intake of new student paramedics.

Fifteen new staff are now on the roads in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.

Three of the students - Sharon Flemons, Lisa Hobson and Louise Davies - will be based at the Luton depot.

The group were awarded certificates to mark the end of a 13-week course in Bedford, which included intense learning and assessment.

Students covered human anatomy and physiology, patient assessment, medical conditions and treatment, trauma management, maternity, basic and advanced life support techniques and equipment, scene management and blue light driving.

The student paramedics will work with experienced members of staff for 12 months while they put together an extensive portfolio of cases.

Only after that has been examined and they have completed final practical assessments will they be fully qualified.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
