Fire crew called out to rescue driver

Stunned onlookers watched in horror on Monday when a car overturned on a busy stretch of the A5 after colliding with a lamppost.

The accident happened shortly before 9.45pm, close to the Packhorse pub in Kensworth.

Firefighters used specialist equipment to free the driver and he was taken to Luton & Dunstable Hospital by ambulance.

The man, who was driving a Vauxhall Astra estate, suffered injuries described as minor in the collision.

The lamppost was wrecked and electricians and highway repair technicians were called out to make it safe.

A police spokeswoman said: 'There was a large crowd around the accident, but if there is anyone who saw it and hasn't yet talked to police, we would like them to do so.'

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
