Queen for a day role for village youngster

Ten-year-old Holly Potton will be having a royally good time at the annual carnival in Edlesborough.

For Holly, of Edlesborough, has been chosen as the 2008 St Mary's Village Carnival Queen.

This year's Carnival Princess is Jemma Flitton and the attendants are Isabel Dorrance and Devon Brown, who are all eight-year-olds from Northall.

On the big day, Saturday July 5, the royal party will be driven in an open-topped car in the carnival procession, along with lots of fancy dress floats decked out on the Fairytales theme.

The procession, which makes its way through Eaton Bray and Edlesborough, will feature attractions including a steel band.

The carnival site will be Edlesborough Green with stalls, entertainment and fun rides including a Big Wheel.

Last year, the carnival raised a record-breaking £11,000 for charities and good causes in the area. This time, the main good cause benefiting from the proceeds will be the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
