Victims have no idea why their home was targeted

A fire started deliberately at a house in Fensome Drive, Houghton Regis, has left one of the occupants "terrified" to go to bed.

Sarah Freeman, 31, was upstairs watching TV on Sunday at 12.15am, when she heard a loud bang outside the front door.

Her husband Mark, 43, was asleep in the living room, when he heard the noise.

Mr Freeman then realised flames were coming into the house, through the front door.

He acted quickly and put out the fire with pans of water.

Then Mrs Freeman spotted a petrol can outside the house which was on fire.

She ran downstairs screaming to Mr Freeman who acted quickly and kicked the can away from the house.

Firefighters from Dunstable Fire Station then arrived and made the house safe.

Det Sgt Jay Bains, investigating, is keen to speak to anyone who saw people hanging around the area or making off.

Anyone with information can contact Det Supt Bains, in confidence, on 01582 473235, the main switchboard on 01234 841212 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
