Engineers will take about six weeks to finish job near Tesco in Skimpot Road

Engineers begin essential gas mains replacement works in Skimpot Road, on the border between Luton and Dunstable, on Monday, July 21.

A section of Skimpot Road, between Kiln Way and the railway bridge, will be reduced to a single lane and temporary traffic lights installed to control traffic flow while workers upgrade 270 metres of gas mains near the Hatters Way roundabout.

The existing cast iron mains will be replaced with modern, durable plastic pipes with a lifespan of at least 80 years if left undisturbed in the ground, and require little maintenance.

National Grid expects the work to take six weeks.
