They blame fortnightly bin collections but council denies link

A Dunstable family have been battling to try and get rid of a swarm of maggots in their bin.

And despite following advice from South Beds District Council, the pests still keep returning to the waste at their bin in Hillcroft.

The Roe family, which includes dad Alan, mum Shirley and their 18-year-old daughter Emma, have tried pouring boiling water over them, disinfecting their bin and double bagging everything, but they still return.

Shirley said: 'The fortnightly collection is to blame - we need a weekly one.'

Basil Quinn, environmental services manager for South Beds District Council said: 'Alternate weekly collections are not the reason people have experienced maggots.'

Read the full story in the August 6 edition of the Dunstable Gazette, available at supermarkets and newsagents, priced 40p.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
