Pub landlord's daughter joins MP for new drive

The daughter of a Dunstable pub landlord has launched a new campaign to combat irresponsible drinking.

Kerrie Duggan, whose father Declan is licensee of The White Swan, has joined forces with Luton South MP Margaret Moran to start raising awareness about Luton's drinking culture and the affect it has on society.

A steering group of 12 students has been set up at Barnfield South Academy to discuss the affects binge drinking has on children.

It is hoped the project will be led by the youngsters, who are also organising a mini senate to bring together consumers, retailers and youngsters to talk about what can be done.

Kerrie, whose brother Kevin Duggan was killed in a devastating drink-fuelled car crash in 1998, said: 'Our children are being drawn in to this new culture and it is easy for them to buy it.

'They are hanging around the streets and starting to cause trouble because they are drunk and, very importantly, they have not a lot else to do. This is only part of the problem. We want to consider the impacts and offer solutions.'

Give your views about the campaign by visiting www.margaretmoran.org.uk and post your comments FAO Kerrie Duggan.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
