Youngsters give play spot the thumbs up

Active young learners in Dunstable have plenty of space to play in now after their pre-school moved to a larger site.

Downside Pre School in Dunstable used to be based in a tiny classroom in the nearby Downside Lower School, which was far from ideal.

Since moving to Downside Neighbourhood Centre in Oakwood Avenue, the tiny tots - all aged between two and five - have given it the thumbs up.

Claire Washington, who chairs the pre-school's committee, said: "We had a little classroom in the lower school, but everything was crammed into the one room.

"Now we're in the new neighbourhood centre, we've got a nice big room and lots more room. It's much, much bigger, and it's better for the kids. The reaction from parents has been very good - they've said what a big step up it is."

There are currently 44 youngsters enrolled at the pre-school, but many of them are set to start school in September, leaving spaces open to fill.

A morning and an afternoon session are held each day, and schools watchdog Ofsted has given the green light for up to 24 pre-schoolers to come along to each.

Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
