Students examine intricacies of free enterprise

Enterprising Dunstable pupils really were the business when they took part in a special event.

Almost 100 students at Manshead School, all from Year 10, joined in an enterprise day.

This was a highly competitive business start-up event, run in conjunction with Waitrose.

Mark Neighbour, of Magenta Project Management, briefed the students, who were divided into four teams to compete against each other.

They were involved with the sourcing, marketing, advertising and packaging design for a variety of strawberry ice cream.

GCSE students studying applied art, business studies, drama, food, media, music and Spanish were involved in the tasks.

They had to decide where to pitch their product in the market, how to price, market and advertise it, and they also had to cope with the unexpected, just like real life.

Students also held taste tests involving three different varieties of strawberry ice cream, supplied by Waitrose.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
