Motorists warned to give themselves more time for holiday getaways

Drivers are being warned of road closures in Vauxhall Way, Luton, over the weekend.

As part of the continuing improvement of the East Luton Corridor, the road will be shut from midnight on Saturday, July 19, until 3am on Monday, July 21, between Crawley Green Road and Airport Way, to carry out works on Eaton Green roundabout.

Luton Borough Council has said a diversion route will be put in place from Crawley Green Road/Vauxhall Way roundabout to Wigmore Lane, Eaton Green Road, Frank Lester Way, Percival Way and Airport Way and the reverse from the Vauxhall Way/Kimpton Road roundabout.

If the roadworks do not go ahead as scheduled, there is a contingency plan to carry them out on the following weekend of July 26 to 28.

A Town Hall spokesman said: 'We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and we advise residents, especially those on their way to the airport for their summer holidays, to allow more time for journeys and map out alternative routes to chosen destinations.'

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
