Sapper turns out for engineers' first Buckingham Palace duty
Attention! Dunstable soldier Sapper Steve Swann has marched into the history books after standing guard at Buckingham Palace.
The 20-year-old former Queensbury School student was among 45 soldiers who provided the Queen's Guard for the first time in their regiment's history.
They all represented 48 Field Squadron (Air Support), 39 Engineer Regiment.
Sapper Swann said: 'It's nice to be able to say I stood guard at Buckingham Palace. I've had more photos taken of me in the last couple of weeks than I have in my entire life!'
Getting ready for the special duties involved three weeks of drill and kit preparation.
He and his fellow soldiers were smartly turned out in ceremonial uniforms, specially tailored, including blue jackets, blue red-striped trousers and peaked caps.
