Villagers put on blooming beautiful display

Judges faced the difficult task of choosing the winners of the Totternhoe Best Kept Front Garden Competition.

In first place, of the competiton run by the parish council, was George and Ethel Martin, of Knolls View.

The couple, who have lived at their house for 60 years, make sure their garden is full of colourful blooms all year round.

But it was the Luton & Dunstable Hospital that Mrs Martin wanted to praise.

For she had two shoulders replacements there in the last few years, which she said has helped her continue to tend to her plants.

Second place went to John and Lin Boom of Castle Close.

The couple encourage wildlife into their garden by planting specialist plants, including foxgloves and dahlias.

And the winner of the best commercial property went to Dial-a-Ride in Castle Hill Road, for their hanging baskets and containers which judges said were up to "Chelsea" standard.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
