Police appeal for taxi passengers to come forward

A youth has been arrested in connection with a robbery in Houghton Regis, in which a cab driver was stabbed.

The 17-year-old was arrested on Thursday, July 17, and was interviewed at Dunstable Police Station.

He was later released on police bail until next month, pending further enquiries.

The cab driver, who is in his 30s, was attacked by two young men at Manning Court, Parkside Drive, just after 3.30am on July 11.

His attackers threatened him, punched him in the face and stabbed him in the thigh, before escaping with up to £50 in takings.

He was taken to Luton & Dunstable Hospital, where he was treated and then discharged.

Det Sgt Jay Bains said enquiries were still going on and police wanted to speak to anyone with information.

Police are particularly keen to speak to two young women who shared the cab with the attackers for part of the journey.

The women travelled in the cab from Skimpot Road, Dunstable, to Windsor Drive, Houghton.

Det Sgt Bains said: 'It is important they understand we are simply treating them as possible witnesses and they have nothing to fear by getting in touch.

'Neither does anyone who knows who they are, or anyone else with information about this case."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det Sgt Bains, in confidence, on 01582 473325, the main switchboard on 01234 841212 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
