Pupils at Parkfields Middle School in Toddington were joined for cricket practice by captain of the England cricket team, Alastair Cook.

The sports hero is the cousin of pupil Chelsea Keeble, who showed him round the school before he took to the field where Year 7 and Year 8 pupils did their best to bowl him out.

The star then took part in a question and answer session with the all pupils.

Headteacher David Brandon-Bravo said: “It was a joy to have Alastair visit Parkfields. The interest he took in all the pupils was really special.

“He made them feel important. Alastair is a tremendous role model to these kids.

“When asked by one of them how he got to be so good he was quite clear in his response – hours and hours of practice and hard work.”
