Join Union J for X Factor band

Performing live on national TV in front of an audience of millions is something most people can only dream of, but for one talented lad from Luton it’s about to become a reality, writes Connie Primmer.

On Saturday night, Jaymi Hensley from Stopsley will be taking to the stage with his boy band Union J in the first of the live X Factor final shows.

The Herald&Post is launching a supporters’ campaign for 22-year-old Jaymi, so join us in cheering on our local talent and watch as he becomes a star.

Proud mum Jackie Hensley said: “I’m so excited for the boys and I’m trying to get as much support going for them as possible. They have worked so hard to get here, and now it’s down to us to get the votes in for them.”

The ex-Putteridge High School student hasn’t had an easy ride on the X Factor as his original group Triple J was kicked out in an earlier round, but a dramatic twist saw them called back.

Jaymi, Jamie ‘JJ’ Hamblett and Josh Cuthbert added George Shelley to the group and became Union J, and judge Louis Walsh chose them for the finals.

Jaymi said: “It’s been a complete rollercoaster of emotions, but we are so happy to be in the live shows. We are so thankful Louis saw something in us and gave us the chance to sing live to the nation.”

Jackie, who works for Henderson’s Newsagents, will be going to watch Jaymi in the first live show with his dad David, his brother Aaron, 17, and one of Jaymi’s best friends.

The boys have already had plenty of attention, with stories in national newspapers and wesbites, and already have 150,000 followers on Twitter.

The Independent website said: “If you haven’t even heard of One Direction yet, give up. It’s too late and you’re old. There’s another X Factor-birthed pop phenomenon on the block and they’ve already got enough squealing fans to be trending on Twitter.”

It’s not the first time someone from Luton has made it to the finals. Voices With Soul (2004), Brenda Edwards (2006) and Beverley Trotman (2007) all made it to the live shows, too. Let’s hope Union J can go all the way this year.
