TWO Luton pubs are toasting their own success after being named in the top 10 best places to drink in Bedfordshire, in rankings compiled by beer aficionados.
The Globe, in Union Street, Luton, and The Bricklayers Arms, in High Town Road, were ranked 7th and 9th respectively in the Bedfordshire top 10 on the website www.beerintheevening.com.
Both of the pubs are popular with real ale drinkers, and The Globe is described by one drinker on the site as ‘the best pub in Luton’ with ‘excellent food and atmosphere’. Another customer said the The Globe was ‘a cosy little pub, off the beaten track but well worth a visit’.
Praise on the site for The Bricklayers Arms includes ‘your best bet for proper beer in Luton’, and ‘top landlady and very friendly and helpful barstaff’.
‘Brickies’ landlady Alison Taylor, who has run the pub for more than 25 years, said: “I think it’s the real ale that makes us so popular, that’s what people are looking for, and we normally have ten or 12 different ones a week.
“It’s sad to see a lot of other pubs closing but we’re doing OK. We’ve got a lot of regulars who’ve been coming in for a long time, and we are a traditional pub, not like the new ones where everything’s plastic and chrome.”
