End of 35mm era will signal a reel cinematic change
Cineworld manager Daisy Johnson with one of the outgoing 35mm projectors
THE curtain is to fall on traditional cinema screenings in Luton this week as the town’s Cineworld complex goes digital.
Bollywood film Rockstar will be the last feature screened using a traditional 35mm projector at the 11 screen multiplex in the Galaxy Centre as a new era of solely 21st century technology is premiered.
Daisy Johnson, general manager at Cineworld, told the Luton News that the change signals the end of an era.
She said: “I’m sad to see the old projectors go.
“I’ve worked here since the cinema opened and this is how I always imagined films to be shown.
“But the new screens will offer more benefits for our customers and offer a lot more content. It is a lot more versatile.
“We hope to be fully digital in time for the madness of the latest Twilight film which comes out on Friday.”
