MEET Iris and Raymond Miles, who will be enjoying their own royal memories as they play at Jubilee-themed events this summer.

The couple, who have lived in Cotton End for 35 years, will be playing a piece of music that Iris’s mother first bought to celebrate the Queen’s coronation 60 years ago.

Iris recently re-discovered the music for In A Golden Coach decades after it was last played. Now she and her husband have re-arranged it so that they can perform it together on piano and clarinet.

She said: “When we are playing together we love to play appropriate music where we can, and what could be more appropriate than this?

“We have always been involved in music and have been in various local bands over the years, although we have only gone out as a duo in the last couple of years.”

Iris, 72, grew up in Stopsley, and met Raymond, 79, when he was based at RAF Henlow during his service career.

She added: “Raymond was part of the Catterick Band of the RAF, and he has his own coronation memories.

“The band played at Whitehall in London as part of the celebrations.”
