A TALENTED new band showcased their music at a Love Luton festival event in The Mall on Valentine’s Day.

Shades of Sound (SOS) are already known locally, having featured on BBC Introducing and played at the Luton Carnival last year.

Members Sean Stevens, King Kittappa, Lea Hart and Nigel Burnett write all their own music which is a unique blend of soul and reggae-rock that defies genre.

Lead singer Sean said: “We’re all really different, not just ethnically but with our backgrounds and our musical influences.

“It works well together and means we create music that doesn’t really fit in any genre.”

Despite all working full time, the boys are very dedicated to the band.

Sean said: “Nothing gets in the way of band practice.

“At the moment we practise in my mum’s garage, and I’d like to publicly say thank you to her for letting us do that.

“It says something about how good we are that she’s still in the house when we finish – we can’t be too bad to listen to!”

SOS have a number of gigs coming up including Live and Unsigned at the Bedford Corn Exchage on February 25 and the Lewsey Farm Festival on February 26.

Visit the Shades of Sound Facebook page to listen to the boys’ music and see upcoming gig dates.
