A company founded in the Victorian era has been sold for £43 million.
Builders merchant Gibbs & Dandy agreed a deal with Saint Gobain, which dubs itself Europe's largest distributor of building materials, that saw shares priced at 425 pence each.
The purchase follows weeks of speculation and a successful period for the Luton-based firm.
Gibbs & Dandy, which has 11 branches, employs 330 people and maintains its head office in Dallow Road, started life as a George Street ironmongery business in the 19th century.
