Top rider opens park

A brand new BMX park has opened in Luton after more than 150 youngsters petitioned the council to give them a dedicated place to ride.

The park, behind Marsh House in Leagrave, had its official opening on Sunday.

Luton mayor Norris Bullock and Luton North MP Kelvin Hopkins dropped in for a lesson from the young riders.

Also there to show off the park's potential was Luton rider Laurence Mapp, one of the UK's top BMX racers, who has clocked up eight wins at the National Series and British Championships.

Bill Copley, parks and community officer for Luton Borough Council, said the park would be a great resource for the whole of the town.

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
