Call for more police patrols after vehicles attacked

A car dealer in Luton has called for more police patrols, after vandals attacked his vehicles by throwing chemicals over them.

Anwar-Ul-Haq Mirza, of Jarral Motors in Arundel Road, was horrified to find 10 of his cars had damage to the paintwork.

He said: "I'm very upset, I don't know what to do. Ten cars is half of my business. The chemicals took the paint off the cars and now they are in a very bad condition."

It is not the first time that Mr Mirza has been targeted by criminals.

Only two weeks ago a caravan on the garage site was broken into and in January thieves broke into one of the vehicles and stole the radiator.

Last month Selbourne Motors - a garage workshop across the road - was torched in a suspected arson attack.

Now Mr Mirza is calling for police to monitor the area more closely.

He said: "It's an industrial area, so after six o'clock people close up their business and go home and that's when people do the crime. I think the police need to be doing more patrols and put CCTV systems around to monitor at night-times."

Beds Police said that the area previously had extra officers patrolling, but did not have the resources to monitor every area all the time.

Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
