Six thousand fewer victims of crime last year in Bedfordshire

Crime in Bedfordshire has fallen by 10 per cent since last year, according to recorded crime figures.

This means that in 2007-08 there were about 6,000 fewer victims of crime.

Violent crime has fallen by 17 per cent, which is 1,522 fewer victims, sexual offences by 19 per cent - 100 fewer victims, and robbery by three per cent, which is down 39.

Also, vehicle crime has fallen by seven per cent, or 591 fewer victims, other theft offences by 15 per cent - 2,342 fewer victims and criminal damage by five per cent - 578 fewer victims.

Beds Police also had a consistent crime detection rate of 26 per cent during the first quarter of 2008-09.
