Store sold out of star's music

Fans of the King of Pop Michael Jackson cleared the shelves at Luton's HMV store at the weekend, after the star's tragic death on Thursday.

The Mall Arndale Centre record shop had sold out of all Jacko's music by Saturday evening, as mourning music lovers bought CDs and DVDs to mark the passing of the legendary artist.

Sales rose 80 fold and the high street chain was forced to put up signs in store to let shoppers know more stock was on way.

A HMV spokesman said: "Luton is reflecting the trend we have seen across the whole HMV chain. On Friday we saw a huge surge of interest from customers coming into stores. It was 80 times greater than the day before.

"By Saturday evening, all of our stores, including Luton, ran out of titles."

The store is now well-stocked again after a substantial delivery, which HMV hopes will meet demand for weeks to come.
