Planners working to get stadium plans online
Crucial documents outlining plans to build Luton Town's new stadium close to Junction 12 of the M1 will soon be made available for public inspection.

Five boxes of paperwork were submitted by the landowner, Cliff Bassett, and developers Goodman International on Monday morning.

Planning officials are now wading their way through the application, which will be published on the internet as soon as it has been processed.

As yet it is unclear when that will be.

The bid has already prompted more than 3,000 people living in nearby Toddington and Harlington to sign a petition calling for the plans to be scrapped, which was presented in Parliament last week.

A statement on South Beds District Council's website said this week: "On Monday 24 February Mid and South Bedfordshire District Councils each received an application relating to the relocation of Luton Town Football Club to a site near Junction 12 of the M1.

"The application also features the creation of distribution warehousing and an access link to Harlington Station.

"The application is made up of five boxes of papers which, if the papers are all in order, should be inspected and registered by the end of this week.

"The paperwork will then be scanned for viewing online but as applications of this kind can be quite complicated to organise for online viewing we cannot yet say exactly when they will be available.

"Once the applications are registered we will begin consulting with stakeholders and local people and further statements will be made to ensure everyone knows the timescale for this consultation and decision-making process."

Opponents will fight plans tooth and nail

To find out more about the Junction 12 application, see this week's edition of the Luton News and the Dunstable Gazette, on sale now at 40p.
