Luton looks forward to the 2012 games

Energetic crowds flocked to St George's Square on Sunday to mark the Olympic torch handover from Beijing to London.

Organised by Nubian Jak Community Trust Ltd, the festivities - called On Track 4 Gold - were designed to involve youngsters in the town and encourage them to get involved in opportunities surrounding the 2012 games.

Footballing trickster Jeremy Lynch, star of Britain's Got Talent, impressed onlookers with his freestyle show and visitors to the event also tried out different dancing styles, including hip hop and line dancing.

Mayor of Luton Councillor Lakhbir Singh raised a special Olympic flag sent from London 2012 to the Town Hall.

The flag raising ceremony was celebrated with a Chinese lion dance.

All On Track 4 Gold programmes are supported by Luton Cultural Services Trust, Diversity Arts Incubation Programme, Bedfordshire Police, Luton Borough Council, Active Luton and Luton Sports Network.

The event also coincided with the finale of Luton Summer Festival, which saw live music, dance and circus performances.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
