Police urge extra caution
An elderly couple were targeted by thieves who called at their home offering to carry out gardening work, prompting police to issue a security warning.

The incident happened on Wednesday, April 30, when two men called at the couple's home in Albion Road, Luton.

They told a woman who answered the door that they were doing gardening jobs in the area and asked if she had change for a £10 note, before pushing past her into the front room, where her husband was sitting. They took a wallet from a table and stole cash from it before leaving the house.

The two men were both white and in their 40s, with local accents. One was about 5ft 6ins tall, thin with untidy hair, and the other was about 5ft 9ins tall, of average build and with dark hair.

The burglary followed another incident on Wednesday, April 23, when a man called at a property in Albert Road, Luton, and told the elderly male occupant that he had been sent by Luton Borough Council to tidy gardens in the area. The man became suspicious and asked the caller, who was white and in his 20s, to leave.

Police say people should not let anyone into their homes or gardens without first checking their identity.

Anyone with any information about either of these incidents should call PC Glyn Price at Luton Police Station on 01582 394032. Crime prevention advice is available on the same number.

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
