Land sales to be reviewed by council

Town Hall plans to sell off four sites in Luton will be under the microscope again tonight, May 14, as angry councillors mount an impassioned plea for a re-think.

Earlier this year council chiefs agreed to part with sites across town, including one which had been earmarked for a new replacement swimming pool.

Lib Dem Councillor Martin Pantling said if the decision goes through there will no chance of a new swimming pool being built in Bath Road to replace the current dilapidated one.

He said: 'Where do they want to put the Olympic Pool they said they would be ready for training athletes preparing for 2012?

'I am more than happy to call questions from members of the public and would invite anyone with a view on this issue to come along on Wednesday night.'

Other sites listed for sale include the former recreation centre in Old Bedford Road, the former elderly persons home in Warden Hill, and The Oaks/Acorns site.

The matter will be raised at a performance, resources and assets scrutiny committee meeting at Town Hall this evening at 6pm.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
