Cats Protection offers handy tips to keep animals safe on November 5

Remember, remember… your cat on the fifth of November.

That's the message from Cats Protection Luton, Dunstable & District Branch during fireworks season.

Although the Guy Fawkes Night celebrations are fun for people, furry felines can be stressed or injured by fireworks.

The charity is advising pet owners to keep cats in after dark, reduce outside noise by keeping windows shut and providing your cat with a safe place to hide, such as an igloo bed.

If you are having your own bonfire celebration, consider buying hand-held cascading fireworks rather than the noisier varieties or hold a silent display – many companies now offer quiet fireworks – giving you the same spectacle without the loud bangs.

Also don't forget to check bonfires before lighting them to ensure that no small animals are sleeping inside.

For more advice on keeping cats safe and happy during the fireworks season call Cats Protection on 0845 371 2746.
