Olympic celebrations in St George's Square
Energetic crowds flocked to St George's Square on Sunday to mark the Olympic torch handover from Beijing to London.
Organised by Nubian Jak Community Trust Ltd, the festivities – called On Track 4 Gold-Run.Dance.Walk – were designed to engage youngsters in the town and encourage them to get involved in opportunities surrounding the 2012 games.
Footballing trickster Jeremy Lynch, star of Britain's Got Talent, impressed onlookers with his freestyle show and visitors to the event also tried out different dancing styles, including hip hop and line dancing.
And X Factor stars Voices With Soul sang their new single Celebration.
Luton mayor Councillor Lakhbir Singh raised a special Olympic flag sent from London 2012 to the Town Hall. The flag-raising ceremony was celebrated with a Chinese lion dance.
All On Track 4 Gold programmes are supported by Luton Cultural Services Trust, Diversity Arts Incubation Programme, Bedfordshire Police, Luton Borough Council, Active Luton and Luton Sports Network.
The event also coincided with the finale of Luton Summer Festival, which saw live music, dance and circus performances.
Highlights included fancy footwork from Luton's Urban Contemporary, Dance Productions and Off The Hook, as well as a stunning vocal performance from Natalie Chua, who showed why she has enjoyed international success, having performed in the past with Leona Lewis and the Sugarbabes.
Luton lass Twila Namfokwe also impressed the crowd with her dulcet tones, as did the Olympic Fanfare from Luton Youth Music.
