Focus is on cutting bad habits of young drivers

A day-long course aimed at saving lives by making young people better drivers is taking place in Luton on Sunday, July 27.

The Roadskills event is now in its eighth year, and organiser Les Stonell says there are still places available for 18 to 25-year-olds who want to improve their driving skills.

The course will see police officers, firefighters and ambulance staff giving talks about the dangers of careless and irresponsible driving, and the devastation that serious road accidents can cause.

Mr Stonnell, from the Luton and District Driving Schools Association has also organised a presentation on basic car maintenance, and Highways Agency officers will be on hand to offer advice on motorway driving.

The day will end with a reconstruction of an accident where the driver is suspected of being over the limit and the passenger has sustained head and neck injuries.

The reconstruction will show how the police, firefighters, ambulance service and the Highways Agency work together to make the scene safe and free the casualty so that they can be taken to hospital.

Mr Stonnell said: 'This course is extremely hard-hitting with no punches pulled.'

The event runs from 9.30pm until 4.30pm, to book a place contact LADDSA on 01582 597775 or email LADDSA

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
