Inspectors impressed by teachers and pupils
Inspectors who visited the English department of Luton's only all-boys school say teachers there have 'transformed' their pupils' attitudes towards reading.
Ofsted inspectors visited Challney Boys School last month, and have just published their report, which rates both the teaching and pupils' achievement as 'outstanding'.
In the last two years the school has invested a great deal in improving its English department, and the inspectors found teachers were constantly striving to help pupils achieve higher grades.
In the report, Ofsted inspector Martin Cragg said relationships between teachers and pupils were 'excellent', and teachers had very high expectations of their students.
He said teaching was tailored to suit the needs of the boys, most of whom are from ethnic minority backgrounds and many of whom have English as their second language.
