Watch a 17th century army in battle at new centre

Visitors can travel back in time to the year 1645 at Luton's Stockwood Discovery Centre on Sunday, July 27.

Visit a 17th century soldier's camp, as well as living history displays and military demonstrations, with soldiers drilling and practising their skills with weapons such as a pike and a sword.

Camp followers will be engaged in the daily routine of cooking, repairing clothing and equipment and nursing the sick or injured.

Members of the Earl Of Northampton's Regiment Of Foote will be on hand to talk to about life in a 17th century army, and living history demonstrators will be answering questions about what it was like for people living through the English Civil War.

Youngsters will have chance to join in with the children's drill and the event will close with a final battle at 3pm.

The day runs from 11am until 4pm, and costs £2.50 for adults and £1 for children.

Parking is free and children must be supervised by a responsible adult.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
