Work under way at giving Luton landmark a new look
Work is well under way on re-thatching Luton's Old Moat House at Biscot, the oldest secular building in South Bedfordshire.
Around 9,000 bales of water reed from Eastern Europe will have been used by the time the three huge pitched roofs of the listed building have been completed.
It's a massive job that many people will only ever see happen once in their lifetime as the thatch – if well-maintained – can last for around 40 years.
But regular visitors to the popular Mitchells & Butlers pub and carvery need have no worries that the service they enjoy so much will be affected by the work.
It's very much business as usual at the bars and in the restaurant.
