A school is taking its environmentally friendliness to the next level, by putting up a wind turbine and solar panels that should provide much of the power it needs.
Crawley Green Infant School in Beaconsfield, Luton, was the first school in town to receive the Eco Schools green flag award for its work to help the environment.
Now teachers are getting ready for the arrival of the 15-metre high turbine and solar panels after the scheme was granted planning permission by Luton Borough Council.
As well as helping save the planet by providing a sustainable energy source, it is hoped the turbine will help cut the school's electricity bill by hundreds of pounds a year.
Headteacher Gill Major and the school's environmental co-ordinator Val Collis are both thrilled the plans were a success.
"We do an awful lot of environmental work and have done for many years," Mrs Major said. "The turbine is just a natural extension of the work we've already done."
The school also has a vegetable garden, a nature reserve and a team of compost-happy pupils called the Little Rotters.
